RAVELLO

Ravello is famous for its fantastic position atop a rocky spur that juts out over the coast. From this elevated position one has spectacular views of the Amalfi coastline and the terraced landscapes in both directions. Ravello’s history is long and convoluted dating from the 4 th century. It has prospered economically as a flourishing centre for the textile industry. The elaborate décor of the churches and plush villas in Ravello are testimony to the wealth of the region. The Villa Cimbrone can be clearly seen from Il Limoneto (see picture above at sunset) and the brave hearted can walk there up a series of steps. Many artists, writers, composers, presidents and royals have stayed in this magical place, including Wagner, DH Lawrence and Longfellow.
